The Akoya pearl, a saltwater cultured pearl from the Akoya oyster (Pinctada fucata martensii), is considered a classic choice for necklaces and other jewellery.
Akoya pearl oysters typically produce just two pearls per harvest, making these beads rarer than their freshwater cousins and unquestionably more precious.
