On the morning of 6 February, Turkey’s southern and central regions were struck by two devastating earthquakes, one at a 7.7 magnitude and the second at a 7.6 magnitude, in which more than 173,000 buildings were severely damaged or destroyed. The earthquake claimed the lives of more than 44,300 people, with the number of casualties continuing to rise. In the days after the earthquake, more than 5 million people emigrated to other cities in search of shelter and care. In response, QNET’s office in Turkey took swift action to help those affected by the earthquake.
The Essentials
Through World Human Relief, QNET Turkey immediately sent 400 food parcels to the earthquake zone. These parcels contained essential food items like rice, pasta, canned goods, and bottled water to help provide sustenance to those affected by the disaster.
The company also provided monetary aid to various organisations aiding the earthquake survivors, namely the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the Search and Rescue Association (AKUT), the World Human Relief organisation, and the Ahbap Association. These organisations have been on the ground, providing essential aid to those affected by the earthquake
