QNET has taken a significant step towards empowering Nigerian youth by joining the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment’s (FMLE) Employability Training Programme. This initiative aligns with QNET’s ongoing “Say No!” awareness campaign, which aims to combat fake job offers and prevent illegal migration across Africa.

Empowering Youth with Essential Skills

Held in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, the two-day training programme brought together young job seekers eager to enhance their employability. The curriculum was designed to equip participants with critical skills for safely navigating the job market, addressing a pressing need given Nigeria’s high unemployment rate of 53.4%.

Addressing Fraud Prevention and Skills Development

QNET’s Regional General Manager, Biram Fall, emphasised the importance of fraud prevention and skills development during his address to the participants. “We are proud to partner with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in this critical initiative. Investing in robust training and continuous education programmes is essential for creating a resilient and competent workforce. By doing so, we protect them from financial loss and boost their employability against scams and fraudulent activities.”

Fall highlighted the challenges faced by QNET in Nigeria and other West African countries, where criminals misuse the QNET name to lure unsuspecting youth into fake job offers. He outlined QNET’s extensive public education programmes aimed at combating these fraudulent activities. “The only way to combat this rising menace is through the power of education. That is why this training program by the FMLE is such a powerful platform,” he said.

Ministry’s Commitment to Youth Empowerment

Miss Augustina Uka, Senior Labour Officer at FMLE, spoke about the Ministry’s dedication to youth empowerment: “Our commitment to enhancing the employability of young Nigerians is unwavering. The National Electronic Labor Exchange (NELEX) project transforms FMLE’s employment exchanges into a robust database of employable manpower in Nigeria to facilitate job exchange and labour mobility. Through our collaboration with QNET, we aim to help youths identify and avoid fake job offers, empowering them with the necessary tools to succeed in the competitive job market.”

Real-Life Impact on Participants

Participants like Akam Comfort Dufang shared their transformative experiences from the training programme. “The training taught us employability, entrepreneurship, and management skills, and helped us identify available job opportunities in Nigeria. I had previously believed QNET was fraudulent, but hearing from a QNET representative about their efforts to combat misinformation has changed my perspective.”

Another participant recounted his near-miss with a job scam, where he was asked to pay an upfront fee for a lucrative job offer. He expressed gratitude for the education received through the programme, which helped him avoid falling victim to such scams.

QNET’s Commitment to Positive Social Impact

QNET continues to make a positive impact on society by supporting training programmes like the FMLE initiative to enhance employability among Nigerian youth and foster a safe, informed job market. Over the past two years, QNET’s FinGreen financial literacy programme has equipped around 1,400 Nigerian youth with essential skills for financial independence. Additionally, QNET has collaborated with agencies like the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) to expand awareness efforts, educating youth on the dangers of fake job offers and human trafficking.

In Nigeria, QNET operates through its franchise partner Transblue Limited, furthering its commitment to social impact and community empowerment.

QNET’s collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment marks a significant stride towards combating unemployment and fraud in Nigeria. By empowering youth with essential skills and awareness, QNET and FMLE are fostering a safer, more informed job market, ultimately contributing to the economic growth and development of Nigeria.
